Katherine Meloan is an artist whose various interests, expressive gifts, and eclectic repertoire enable her to contribute to the musical world with distinctive and friendly performances.

Some of Dr. Meloan’s recent engagements include: Princeton University Chapel at Princeton University; National Cathedral in Washington D.C.; Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in North Carolina; Saint Mary the Virgin in New York City, a performance that was subsequently featured on American Public Radio’s Pipedreams; Florida International University - Wertheim Concert Hall in Miami, Fl.; St. Paul’s Episcopal in Wilmington, NC. In addition, she has performed at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston - South Carolina and in Europe on the historical organs of Clicquot (Poitiers) and Cavaillé-Coll (Epernay).

In 2012, Katherine joined the faculty at
Manhattan School of Music. She teaches organ to pianists, composers, and choral conductors as well as to advanced organists who desire to study at the graduate level. Many of her students continue to study at colleges and universities across the United States.

One of Dr. Meloan’s greatest passions is choral music. Katherine is currently Director of Chapel Music at The United States Merchant Marine Academy where she directs The Midshipman Mariners Chorus and The Mariner Chapel Choir, and plays for all services. The Mariners Chorus has sung at such events as The Maritime Awards Dinner at The National Press Club in Washington D.C., The USMMA Battle Standard Dinner with guest of honor, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff – General Martin Dempsey, and The Festival of Lights Holiday concert with the United States Merchant Marine Academy Regimental Band. The Mariners Chorus also leads the national anthem for sporting events on and off campus and performs in the New York City area with various choirs. The Mariner Chapel Choir serves the Catholic and protestant community on campus and sings for all services in The Mariners’ Chapel. Katherine has also served Trinity-Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Long Island as director of music; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Brooklyn, New York as choirmaster/organist; St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Queens, New York as organist; St. John’s Anglican Church in London, England as organist; and University Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Miami, Florida as organist.

In addition to gracing the musical stage, Katherine is also a classical dancer. She has danced with Ballet Long Island, Staten Island Ballet, and International Folk Dance Ensemble. She is currently artistic director/dancer of Bridal Ballet. She performs variations from ballets such as: Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire, Paquita, La Bayadere, Chopinania, Swan Lake, and numerous contemporary works.

Katherine holds degrees (B.A) from Florida International University (magna cum laude) in piano and Manhattan School of Music (M.M., D.M.A.) in organ. Her performance has garnered the Outstanding Music Performance Award from Florida International University and the Bronson Ragan Award in outstanding organ performance from Manhattan School of Music.
